The Directiv
Logan, Utah

Bands: Once a Hero, Vincent, Nimh.

Here we are crossing the state line into Utah. Most of Wyoming looked just like this, and until we started getting closer to Salt Lake City, Utah did too.

Nearing Salt Lake City, the scenery was really beautiful. This is the middle of the Wasatch Range, and not too far from Park City, where many of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games were held. When we reached Salt Lake, we checked into our hotel and decided to go see "The Matrix Reloaded" on its opening night. Pretty good movie; go see it and tell us what you thought.

The next day we had some time to kill before we had to drive to Logan for the show, so we went to Downtown Salt Lake to check out the city. Salt Lake City, for those of you who don't know, is the center for the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. Above is a picture of the famed building where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings. The building is acousticly perfect, and even when speaking quietly, you can hear your voice resonate off of the walls.

Here's the Salt Lake Temple, the largest center of worship for the Mormons. We weren't allowed to go in, either because we're not Mormons or possibly because they don't want their center of worship being a tourist attraction. After seeing some of the sights, we went shopping in a couple of the downtown malls, and caught a bite to eat before heading off to our show in Logan.

The Directiv is basically a skate shop by day, but they put on rock shows in the evening. Logan and Cheyenne have a couple things in common- they're not very large cities, but they have a very supportive music scene. There were quite a few kids at the show and they were all into it. The band in the picture is Vincent, a local band from Logan who kicked off the show. It was only their second peformance, but they had some really cool guitar riffs and plenty of screaming to keep everyone's attention.

We rocked it out second. We put on a pretty good show, so the crowd was really receptive, and that's about all we can really ask. There was plenty of room on the "stage," so we didn't have to worry too much about slamming into each other.

Finally, Nimn wrapped up the show. These guys hail from Salt Lake City and were somewhat similar to us in style. Playing with bands like Nimh, or any bands that fall slightly outside the punk/hardcore circle, is somewhat of a rarity for us on tour, so we enjoyed their set. Hopefully, we'll try to hook up something with them next time we come back to Salt Lake or if they make it out to Michigan. We're playing at the ledgendary 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley tomorrow. The drive from Logan to the Bay Area is probably the longest single drive we'll do this tour, so we're going to drive straight through the night. West Coast, here we come.
