>>Once A Hero "The Central Standard EP" By Matt

Speak Now, Or Forever Hold Your Peace... Once A Hero's first track on The Central Standard EP is great, Doug's voie jsut peeling in, and sticking in your mind, it's one of those that you never forget, one you could fall in love with. This band is nothing short of excellent, as a matter of fact, they're amazing. To think that they're all jsut college boys, and not on a major label, it's unthinkable!

Fairweather, the first track on the album, just gives you a sneak peek at what's to come from these guys. The brilliant mix of vocals, and stunning talent in their musical background just amazes me, everytime I listen to this CD, I can't stop letting the songs roll through my mind, I'll go days on end with Fairweather in my mind.

Fairwether is a song about getting in a fight with your girlfriend, so you tell ehr you'll walk out of her life, and she pleads "DON'T GO!" so you stay, but with consequences, you ask her to look into your eyes, or into herself, and see the person she's deprived of the best thing someone can have, love.

Regret And Regress, the shortest song on the EP, is one of my favorite songs! In the first verse, they use the analogy of saying something wrong, and wanting to take it back, and not being able to by saying "The red leaves are turning to ugly brown, winter's comin soon, where there was a smile, now is a frown", I love how they spell it out that it's a horrid fight with a friend ou care about. But you work through what the consequense was, you learn from it, you heal from the pain, although there's a scar that will remind you of it everyday. And when it's all over, you look back, and realize how little you knew her, and how you may have been blinded.

I've been there before, I pick up the phone, it's one am, the number light up, you find you've dialed a number, but no answer is there. You're being led on, you don't know what went wrong. What Went Wrong? is a great song, it's about not knowing, being confused, I don't know why, but I get a feeling I got from my Ex-girlfriend, the whole, being led on, and her not telling you anything but "it's over" and that little prick you get in your heart, but that void is patched up and healed by someone much better, someone you really do love, someone you know loves you back.

The fourth track, Drive Away, is I guess running away from your problems. But you can't, you have to turn around and face them sometime.

The fifth, and Final Track, "Let You Down", is my favorite track on the album. Long Distance relationships blow, they never work out. and this song proves it, it's about meeting someone else. And telling the other person that it's sadly over, and that your promise to them is broken. You broke the promise that you'd both be together forever (and I'd never break that promise if I made it to someone (wink wink jenny) ). But you find that you've literally broken this person's fragile heart, and now you feel like shit. You try to apologize, it does nothing. You can't apologize, you're sorry, for letting go. But it's over, you have to hope the person you let down will be strong enough to carry on as you live your life on.

This EP is possibly my favorite EP of the year. Honestly, it is. At the end of the year, CP is doing a top 10 Albums list, and a top 10 EP's list, look for this one to be on that list, and also watch the CP charts when they open up, you'll see these guys for sure. This band is one of the best out there in the indie world right now. Be sure to hit up their Site and purchase the EP of 5 bucks, and get some other stuff as well.
